So we decided to become a complementary service and not a competitor to digital agencies. We tried explaining this to the first couple of digital agencies who replaced us, but the concept of working with the last team was too much to bear… The main reason we tried to reason with these digital agencies is we knew our tech was helping and moving on would hurt the client. Fast forward 3 years later and we almost solely work through digital agencies and related value-added resellers (VARs). The agencies get what they want in the form of being able to outsource work to a third party that is cost-effective while being able to grow.
What I found in my short-lived digital agency experience is growth requires being able to do a lot more with less help or at least less costly help. If you ever visit a growing digital agency you will find the room filled with recent college grads or guys on Fiver. This is the only way to grow and stay profitable.
