Making internal links between pages is important for multiple reasons.  One is it allows the Google crawler to move between pages for indexing without using a sitemap.xml document.  It allows Google to see this page has relevance to additional keywords that are associated with other web pages.  It also lets the Google search engine increase overall site authority.  The question is how many are too many, and what is the optimized number.  I would say you could go bigger on these because if you think about it, menu links are essentially the same thing.  The difference between these links and menu links is they are not the same exact piece of html code.  Google notices not just repeating page content, but it will also see repeating html.  Because a page menu is the same on every page, Google has to know this.  By putting various internal links through-out pages, that helps establish unique HTML coding.
