Building Quality BackLinks Through HARO (Help A Reporter Out)
If you are new to HARO, and you are trying to backlink build, it is one of the rare but hard ways to get a great backlink. I have used HARO to get backlinks from Forbes and US News and World Report websites. I once came close to getting a backlink from The Harvard Business Review! So, how does this work? Well, there are 2 types of HARO users, journalists, and content providers. Journalists are gathering data for stories and content providers, like us, are trying to get a quality backlink! You sign up. You get questions sent to you by journalists. You try to answer those questions and get your answers picked by the journalists. This is a lot trickier than it appears. That’s because you have to show some expertise to get picked. As my wife points out, don’t you have some dignity, things you would not write about? I’m a writer. I’ll write about anything. That means if it is even close to something I can answer, I will try. Now, it is not always possible to find questions in your field. You have to be creative. For instance, I always tried to answer questions about vacation, home life, maybe something I have in common with the story. Every once in a while the questions would be about SEO or dating and I would get a chance to answer. You can’t be an expert in every field! For HARO, stretching your abilities and knowledge is worth the backlink!
